They may complain about living by the clock, commuting to work and making the boss rich but do nothing about it. This is because they don’t know what to do. The first thing I want to help you with is making that first step which is a positive action to improve your life. To do this you must set goals and goal setting is discussed later on in this report. Being able to set goals is far more important than most people realize and actually will make changes to your life. For most people the first priority in life is to have more money so you will need to decide whether you want to work for a boss or would prefer to work from home for yourself. Believe
If you don’t believe in yourself then nobody else will! It sounds trivial but it is true. It’s all to do with perceptions, and your perceptions could be holding you back from having the things you dream of. I have found one thing in common from all the successful people I have dealt with, and that is that they have a positive outcome and positive thoughts. If you think of yourself as a loser it will come across without you being aware of the fact, and it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Education
Education is more than school learning and is about being informed about the choices that we make. Knowledge is power. The more you know about a subject, the more successful you will be. Education is a continuing process and we are never too old to learn. What income level do you want?
Whether you are looking to make an extra few hundred dollars a month to supplement your income or are looking for a solid program that could put a few extra thousand dollars a month in your pocket I will be able to help you with what you’ve been looking for!
It is really important that you decide what income level you would like because without a target to aim at many people end up going off the track. “Lots of money” is not an answer. Think what you need to live comfortably – depending on your circumstances you may decide that figure is $50,000, $80,000 or $300,000 a year. I suggest you don’t aim too high at first. Once you achieve your goal of say $100,000 or whatever per year then set a new goal of $150,000 once you reach it. If you set a goal that is unrealistically high at first you may burn yourself out trying to achieve it. Small steps will get you there in the end.

Do you like the idea of working for yourself from home?
If you think the answer is yes then you have to decide what sort of business you would like. Answering the following five questions will help you to decide:
  1. Why do you want to work for yourself?
  2. Why do you want to work from home?
  3. What business skills do you have (if you don’t have any it doesn’t matter as discussed later)?
  4. Do you have hobbies or interests outside of your work and if “yes” what are they?
  5. Do you wish to become more knowledgeable about any subject, but just haven’t had the time?

Why do you want to work for yourself?
There are many reasons people choose to work for themselves, but the main reasons are money, lifestyle and security. In the past people earned a reasonable wage for their working week and had relative job security provided they did their job. But now the job market has completely changed. Many businesses now operate seven days a week and even work through public holidays. Wages are no longer increased regularly due to length of service and loyalty but are now based on outcomes, achievements and measurable targets. Job security is a thing of the past with many traditionally safe jobs now held by people on annual contracts. Now things have changed, many people want to work for themselves because they perceive they will be able to make more money working for themselves; have more job security, and be able to choose their work schedule. Maybe some of this applies to you?
The downside of working for yourself is that you are also responsible for all of the costs that come from self-employment which can include things like taxes, insurances, vehicle operation, in some cases rent and so on. Don’t forget that if you are self-employed you often don’t get much time off.  You will be working in an environment that has not budgeted for sick days or holidays so if you don’t work you don’t get paid. Be aware that being self-employed can be hard work and mentally demanding, but the rewards can be great.


Why do you want to work from home?

Increasing numbers of people are choosing to start their new businesses from home and there are a number of reasons why this makes sense. The costs of running a business are reduced in terms of overheads such as rent and utilities and with petrol costs the way they are it is certainly great if you don’t need to travel to work. Many women choose to work from home so that they can care for young or school-aged children while working. Others find that working from home is a good cost benefit exercise in that they are not spending lengthy periods of time commuting to work every day, which is expensive in terms of transport costs and time.

Despite the obvious benefits of working from home, it may not suit everybody. In some businesses it is easy to become “isolated” in that you are often working alone. You also need to be an organized type of person who has the discipline to make yourself work when it is a nice day outside. Sometimes trying to juggle work demands with the demands of young children can also be stressful, while other people find themselves working even longer hours than they were in their previous office position, as they have to do administration tasks as well as the job they are being paid for.

What business skills do you have?
As mentioned earlier it is not necessary to have a large number of business skills, but it makes life easier if you have some understanding of administration tasks. However, if you are not comfortable doing your own bookkeeping and other accounts/tax related tasks you will need to factor in the costs of hiring an expert to do this for you, or the costs of software which you could use. Similarly if marketing is not your strong point yet you want to promote a business from home you may want to hire a person with these skills to market your new business.
Hobbies, interests and passions
Your hobbies, interests and passions can help you decide what type of business you want to be in. Starting a home business is an opportunity to do whatever you want. If you have hidden talents as an artist, a writer, or in a craft you can get out of your traditional job and make money from your talent or hobby. Perhaps research, learning, or teaching others is your dream. The easiest way to determine what you are passionate about is to simply ask yourself “If money were not an issue, what would I like to do everyday?”

You may be passionate about an area where you have little knowledge. Don’t let this stop you as you are never too old to learn. If you take a bit of time to consider your options and your interests do you still think you are capable of running a home business? For most people the answer is yes because of the freedom it brings. Think through your interest and passions to try and determine what you are most interested in.
Perceptions
Perceptions were mentioned earlier and I will discuss them more here. There is a widely recognized concept called Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP. The main idea behind NLP is that it is an individual’s thoughts, gestures, actions, words and experiences that form an individual’s perception of the world, and that these same individual’s can change “their” world though changing their attitude and perceptions. It doesn’t matter if you don’t fully understand what this means; for now try and accept that this is a strongly tried and tested true system that has evolved from scientific facts and personal experiences from countless people. This means your perception, your thoughts and feelings, and your physical actions can all combine to create your reality.
This concept is sometimes difficult to understand at first. Most of us are programmed to believe that we have no control over a lot of what happens in our lives. Think back to a time when you thought that something happened to you that was caused by someone or something else. Perhaps it wasn’t a physical cause, perhaps you had relatives who told you that you couldn’t succeed; maybe the cause was more subtle such as living in a household that is always short of money or living in the shadow of a brighter sibling. What is difficult sometimes for newcomers to this line of thinking to understand is that these events or thoughts create our perceptions and it is those perceptions that we need to change if we are ever to progress our lives beyond what we have now.

You must move forward from negative lines of thinking that can hold you back. When we use reasons to say why we can’t do things we are taking the path of least resistance – for example “they did it to me”, getting emotional, blaming others, including complaints about a lack of education, money, or poor upbringing etc. These are excuses which will act as a barrier to success.

Most people have their own stories from the past that create these barriers to success whether they be emotional, material or psychological, abuse, or any way that we allow past experiences to stop us living to our full potential now.  No matter how justified you think you are in holding onto these barriers, these reasonings do not serve as a purpose for you to get the things you want. The only things that serve a purpose are starting to perceive things in a different way – otherwise you are never going to succeed. Because of this it is important to set firm goals you wish to achieve, and to believe in yourself. Mindset is very important to success. Goal setting is crucial.
Back to Business
OK lets return to that idea of a home business now that I have tried to drum home how important mindset is. Any business can be set up from home – you can have a website that is an online store and contains goods you have bought at wholesale prices and on sell at retail prices. You can export cheap goods from countries like China and sell them on a website or on eBay.
There is no need to have an expensive infrastructure as is the case with traditional business as you need no shopfront and can keep stock in your garage or a spare room. You can sell your skills such as writing, computer programming, illustrations etc. You don’t need to know how to set up a website as you can find many people selling web set-up skills through the yellow pages or by searching in you local area. Your cheapest options are probably through sites such as eBay or Elance. Once your website is set-up it is working for you 24 hours a day, even if you are not at your computer. A great way to generate income is through affiliate marketing which is discussed later on.
Marketing your business
Marketing is very important in growing a home based business on the internet. It doesn’t matter if you have the best website in the world if nobody knows it is there. A traditional shop will attract passing trade so marketing an internet based business is very different from a traditional shop based business. The upside is an internet business can be inexpensive to advertise. With a traditional store-based business, advertising in the newspaper, television and radio cost money, while email is free.
